Gracilaria heteroclada J. Zhang & B.M. Xia, a later homonym of Gracilaria heteroclada (Montagne) Feldmann & G. Feldmann, was replaced with Gracilariopsis heteroclada J. Zhang & B.M. Xia. However, if this entity is regarded taxonomically as a Gracilaria, it will require a new name. The name Gracilaria bailiniae J. Zhang & B.M. Xia nom. illeg., a substitute name for Gracilaria heteroclada J. Zhang & B.M. Xia, cannot be used as it was superfluous when published and is therefore illegitimate.
This is a marine species.
Type locality: Yinggehai, Hainan island, Guangdong Province, China (Kraft et al. 1999: 18).
