Holotype locality: Muroran? Hokkaido, Japan (Sutherland et al. 2011: 1145). Holotype: I. Ohno; Tokyo Univ. of Marine Science & Technology (Sutherland et al. 2011: 1145). Notes: Miyagi Pref. northward, SW Hokkaido, N Honshu, Japan. Korea (Neefus et al., 2008).

Distributional notes
This species has been introduced into the Mediterranean (Verlaque et al. 2015: 107) being first found in the Étang de Thau (France) in 1975. However, "To date, the only documented record of Py. yezoensis from the Mediterranean Sea is that by Armeli Minicante (2013: 141) from the Lagoon of Venice (Italy). In fact, according to Armeli Minicante (op. cit.) the identification of the species was confirmed by molecular analysis based on DNA barcoding."
