Type Species
The type species (lectotype) of the genus Spongites is Spongites fruticulosus Kützing.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Chamberlainium agulhense (Maneveldt, E.van der Merwe & P.W.Gabrielson) Caragnano, Foetisch, Maneveldt & Payri.
