The type species (holotype) of the genus Platythalia is Platythalia quercifolia (R.Brown ex Turner) Sonder.

Type locality: No type locality cited [Australia: Western Australia; probably near Fremantle fide Womersley, 1967: 256] (Sonder 1845: 51). Lectotype: Preiss; MEL 18803 (Womersley 1987: 406).
