The type species (holotype) of the genus Tritrichomonas is Tritrichomonas augusta (A.G.Alexeieff) Kofoid.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Trichomitus rotundus (Hibler, Hammond, Caskey, A.Earl Johnson & P.R.Fitzgerald) Honigberg.

Adjective (Latin), almost circular, with length breadth ratio of about 6 to 5 (Stearn 1973).
