Type locality: Japan Sea: Petroklos Bucht (near Wladiwostok) 43°3'N, 131°57'E; (Index Nominum Algarum) Notes: According to Blanco (2016: 110), the holotype of Asteromphalus robustus var. trianguatus Kisselev in Proshkina-Lavrenko (1949) non Kisselev (1935) consists of a drawing of an entire valve and a detail of the striation (pl. 36, figs 2 a, b, respectively).
