Type locality: Lake Tanganyika; (Schmidt 1924: pl. 349: figs 46-48) Lectotype: BRM; slide 224/75 from Hustedt Collection accession A515 (Trobajo, Mann & Cox 2012: 187) Notes: "Station 6" which may have been a phytoplankton colelction on the lake.

Adjective (Latin), shortened (Stearn 1973).
