The type species (holotype) of the genus Chantransia is Chantransia nigricans De Candolle.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Grania pectinata (Kylin) Athanasiadis.

Type locality: "An der halländischen Küste bei Varberg und bei Hogardsgrund ausserhalb Kungsbackafjorden." Sweden: Halland Prov.; (Kylin 1906: 123) Type: LD; Notes: Halland coast of Sweden (Woelkerling, 1971).

Origin of Species Name
Adjective (Latin), pectinate, with narrow close-set divisions like a comb (Stearn 1973).

General Environment
This is a freshwater species.

Habitat
Epiphytic on various algae (Index Nominum Algarum).
