Type Species
The type species (holotype) of the genus Amphidiniopsis is Amphidiniopsis kofoidii Wołoszyńska.

Type locality: Centennial Beach, Boundary Bay, British Columbia, Canada (49º0.0'N, 123º8.0'W); (Hoppenrath et al. 2012: 163) Holotype: fig. 9: marine, benthic (sand-dwelling); SEM stub CEDiT2011H11 (Hoppenrath et al. 2012: 163) Notes: Iconotype/isotype: fig. 21. Recorded at type locality in the months of March to August and October in 2005, in May 2006 and in May to August 2007.

Origin of Species Name
Adjective (Latin), almost circular, with length breadth ratio of about 6 to 5 (Stearn 1973).
