The type species (holotype) of the genus Chondria is Chondria tenuissima (Withering) C.Agardh.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Coeloclonium umbellatum (Harvey) J.Agardh.

Type locality: Rottnest Island, Western Australia; (Silva & al. 1996: 486) Notes: According to Womersley (2003: 415) the lectotype is from Garden I., Western Australia; Harvey, Alg. Aust. Exsic. 161a, in Herb. Harvey, TCD.
