This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Pyropia gardneri (G.M.Smith & Hollenberg) S.C.Lindstrom.
Type Information
Type locality: Point Joe, Monterey Peninsula, California; (Smith & Hollenberg 1943: 215) Holotype: G.M. Smith 39-12; epiphytic on lateral margins of blades of Laminaria andersonii and on tips of leaflets of Egregia menziesii; (Smith & Hollenberg 1943: 215) Notes: Holotype: DS in UC 306401 (Sutherland et al. 2011).
