The type species (holotype) of the genus Ganonema is Ganonema farinosum (J.V.Lamouroux) K.-C.Fan & Y.-C.Wang.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Hommersandiophycus clavatus (Yamada) Showe M.Lin & Huisman.

Type locality: Miyako-Jima, Ryukyu (= Okinawa), Japan; (Lin et al. 2014: 42) Holotype: SAP; 20639 (Yoshida 1998: 517) Notes: Type specimen: a male plant, collected by Y. Yamada, 10 April 1935 (Lin et al. 2014: 42).

Adjective (Latin), clavate (Stearn 1973).
