Type Species
The type species (holotype) of the genus Chondria is Chondria tenuissima (Withering) C.Agardh.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Laurencia filiformis (C.Agardh) Montagne.
Type Information
Type locality: "Ad oras occidentales novae Hollandiae" [Western Australia]; (Agardh 1822: 358) Holotype: PC?; Notes: Agardh (1822: 358) clearly says "Vidi in collectione Musaei Parisiensis" so the holotype should be in PC and the "lectotype" (Womersley 2003: 470), which did not include the required "designated here", in LD (herb. alg. Agardh 36488) is probably a duplicate of the holotype.
Origin of Species Name
Adjective (Latin), thread-like (Stearn 1973).
