The type species (holotype) of the genus Griffithsia is Griffithsia corallina C.Agardh.

This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Anotrichium crinitum (Kützing) Baldock.

Adjective (Latin), having tufts of long weak hairs (Stearn 1973).
