The type species (lectotype) of the genus Rhabdonia is Rhabdonia coccinea (Harvey) Harvey.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Austroclonium charoides (Harvey) Min-Thein & Womersley.

Type locality: Port Phillip Heads, Victoria, Australia; (Silva & al. 1996: 283) Lectotype: Harvey; TCD, Herb. Harvey; Alg. Aust. Exsicc. 393E (Womersley 1994: 433) Notes: Womersley (1994: 433) notes that there are isolectotypes in MEL (45110) and AD (A18254).
