This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Rhododrewia porphyrae (K.M.Drew) S.L.Clayden & G.W.Saunders.

Type locality: Lands End, San Francisco, California; (Drew 1928: 189) Holotype: Gardner No. 3276; endophytic; UC; 294552 (Drew 1928: 189) Notes: Woelkerling & Womersley in Womersley (1994: 71) notes that the type was found in Porphyra perforata .

Adjective (Latin), of or on the genus Porphyra (Stearn 1973).
