The type species (holotype) of the genus Lithothamnion is Lithothamnion muelleri Lenormand ex Rosanoff.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Boreolithothamnion soriferum (Kjellman) P.W.Gabrielson, Maneveldt, Hughey & V.Peña.
