Type locality: "Wonderland of Rocks, Joshua Tree National Park, Mojave Desert, California, USA, Site WJT36, 34°02'29" N, 116°08'42" W"; (Pietrasiak & al. 2019: 982, 983) Holotype: June 28, 2006; Biological soil crust on coarse granitic sandy soil; NMC; 86,516 (Pietrasiak & al. 2019: 983) Notes: "NMC 86,516 [is] a packet consisting of algal culture material of the reference strain WJT36-NPBG1 preserved in 4% formaldehyde and dried biomass of the same strain on glass fiber filters, prepared on the same day from the same culture by one of the authors of the manuscript in accordance with ICN Art. 8.2 (a single gathering), as indicated in this protolog (ICN Recommendation 8A.4)."
