The type species (holotype) of the genus Haplozoon is Haplozoon armatum Dogiel.

Type locality: Kitsunezaki, Miyagi prefecture, Japan (38°21.36'N, 141°25.42'E); (Yamamoto et al. 2020: 315) Holotype: 26 March 2018; intestinal lumen of polychaete, common among roots of Zostera caespitosa, at 5-6 m depth; SAP; 115, 485 (trophonts on SEM stubs) (Yamamoto et al. 2020: 315, fig. 2) Notes: GenBank LC529366.

Adjective (Latin), thin, slender (Stearn 1973).
