Type Species
The type species (lectotype) of the genus Peyssonnelia is Peyssonnelia squamaria (S.G.Gmelin) Decaisne ex J.Agardh.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Agissea novae-hollandiae (Kützing) Pestana, Lyra, Cassano & J.M.C. Nunes.

Type locality: "Nova Hollandia" (probably Western Australia); (Silva & al. 1996: 212) Type: Herb. Binder, HBG; (Womersley 1994: 158) Notes: This type locality was first recorded by Millar (1990: 332) (Silva et al., 1996)

General Environment
This is a marine species.

Habitat
Essentially a deep water species, known from shaded pools to 48 m deep (Womersley 1994: 158).
