The type species (lectotype) of the genus Nitophyllum is Nitophyllum punctatum (Stackhouse) Greville.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Schizoseris perriniae (A.H.S.Lucas) Womersley.

Type locality: "River Tamar, near Georgetown" [Tasmania]; (Womersley 2003: 117) Lectotype (designated by Womersley 2003: 117): Mrs. F. Perrin and A. H. S. Lucas.; January 1928; Growing on rocky bottom at 4-8 fathoms; Herb. Lucas (currently in NSW); (Womersley 2003: 117) Notes: Iso [lecto]types in Herb. Lucas (currently in NSW) and iso[lecto]types (?) in AD (A12241, A49609).
