Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Leptosiphonia fibrillosa (Agardh) Savoie & G.W.Saunders.

Origin of Species Name
Adjective (Latin), violet, refers to the blue-red colours nearer blue (Stearn 1973).
