Type Information
Type locality: "Akaro, Novae-Zeclandiae; d'Urville" [likely error for Hobart, Tasmania]; (Montagne 1842: 8) Holotype: PC; Herb. Montagne (Mitchell 1966: pl. 1 (25): fig. 1) Notes: "... probably from Tasmania (rather than Akaroa, N.Z. - see Mitchell 1966, p. 210); in Herb. Montagne, PC." (Womersley 1994: 223). " Mitchell (1966: 201) says "It seems possible that the original locality (Akaroa, New Zealand) is incorrect, since d’Urville’s expedition called at Hobart, Tasmanla, immediately prior to visiting New Zealand. Several other locality records of algae collected by this expedition are open to doubt (see Womersley 1956, p. 356)."
