The type species (lectotype) of the genus Galaxaura is Galaxaura rugosa (J.Ellis & Solander) J.V.Lamouroux.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Dichotomaria intermedia (R.C.Y.Chou) J.Wiriyadamrikul, M.J.Wynne & S.M.Boo.

Taylor, No. 34-213; 17 Jan. 1934; freqent in the lower littoral; Hancock Foundation; (Taylor 1945: 144-145) Notes: Holotype in UC; isotype in MICH (Wiriyadamrikul et al., 2014: 32).
