Type Species
The type species (lectotype) of the genus Ceramium is Ceramium virgatum Roth.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Yoneshiguea affinis (Setchell & N.L.Gardner) Barros-Barreto, Maggs & M.A.Jaramillo.
Type Information
Type locality: Isla Guadalupe, Baja California, Mexico; (Setchell & Gardner 1930: 172) Holotype: CAS; 173642 (Yoshida 1998: 889) Notes: Dawson (1962: 51) gives the following information for the type: H. L. Mason 36, April, in Herb. California Academy of Sciences (173642); an isotye slide is in Herb. A. Hancock Foundation. He also notes that the type specimen was epiphytic on Codium.
Origin of Species Name
Adjective B (Latin), neighbouring, allied to, akin to (Stearn 1973).
