Type Species
The type species (holotype) of the genus Caloglossa is Caloglossa leprieurii (Montagne) G.Martens.

Type Information
Type locality: "Hab. Ogasawara-jima (Bonin Islands); collected by Mr. R. Yatabe and preserved in the Herbarium of the Imperial University of Tokyo." [Japan]; (Okamura 1897: 13) Lectotype (designated by Seto 1985)): SAP [ex TI]; herb. Okamura (Yoshida 1998: 967) Notes: According to Womersley (2003: 25) the holotype is in TI and it was collected by Yatabe at Ogasawara-jima, Bonin Is, Japan, in March 1879. Type: TI (lectotype fide Seto, Jap. J. Phycol. 33: 317-319, 3 figs. 1985); collection date: iii.1879 (INA).

General Environment
This is a freshwatermarinebrackish species.

Habitat
South Australian specimens occurred in an area subject to warmer water from a power station outfall, and may be adventive in this locality (Womersly 2003: 25).
