Type Information
Type locality: "Conferva, no. 2109. Haller, hist. pl. helv.... assez commune dan les eaux stagnantes" [Switzerland]; (Girod-Chantrans 1802: 54) Notes: "Lectotype (designated here): [illustration in] Girod-Chantrans, Rech. Conferves: pl. 8, fig. 17??. 1802; Epitype (designated here): Cryopreserved strain NIES-50009." (Nakada & Ota 2016: 345). The refrence to Haller is of a polynomial Conferva pollinea purpurea aquae innatans (Haller 1769: 191, no. 2109).

Origin of Species Name
Adjective (Latin), inhabiting lakes (Stearn 1973).
