The type species (lectotype) of the genus Liagora is Liagora viscida (Forsskål) C.Agardh.

Type Information
Type locality: Kasyoto, Formosa [Kasho-to, Taiwan]; (Huisman 2006: 58) Lectotype: Y. Yamada; 14 Apr. 1934; SAP; 20645 (Yoshida 1998: 515) Notes: Huisman (2002: 796) notes that Yamada cited two localities( the second being Yonakuni-zima, Ryuku, Japan) and did not indicate a holotype. The specimen from Taiwan depicted in his plate 2 is designated (by Huisman, 2002: fig. 56) as the lectotype.

General Environment
This is a marine species.

Habitat
Widespread in warmer waters of the Indo-Pacific; epilithic in shallow water (Huisman 2006: 61).
