The type species (holotype) of the genus Astasia is Astasia limpida Dujardin.

Type Information
Type locality: "It was reared for the first time from material from a highland pool at the Plockenstein above Lunz, which on immediate investigation displayed only Trachelomonas. Two other strains were isolated from ditches of the Kummerteich meadow near Hirschberg in Bohemia, where Trachelomonas, accompanied by Desmids, was likewise observed. A fourth strain was obtained from material growing on stems of Typha in the Grossteich near Hirschberg." [Austria, Czech Republic]; (Pringsheim 1942: 187)

Participle A (Latin), twisted (Stearn 1973).
