Type Species
The type species (holotype) of the genus Lemanea is Lemanea corallina Bory.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Paralemanea grandis (Wolle) S.Kumano.

Mervin Palmer]; January 28, 1888; BH; (Vis & Sheath 1992: 165) Notes: Broad River, Columbia, South Carolina; LT= Morgan's Creek, N.C. fide Atkinson, 1931 (INA).

Adjective (Latin), south, southern (Stearn 1973).
