The type species (holotype) of the genus Amphidinium is Amphidinium operculatum Claparède & Lachmann.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Pseudadenoides kofoidii (Herdman) F.Gómez, R. Onuma, Artigas & Horiguchi.

Type locality: beach at Port Erin, Isle of Man; (Index Nominum Algarum) Type: fig. 2 (Herdman, 1922: 26): fig. 60 (epitype) (Gómez et al. 2015: 133) Notes: at about level of low water neap tides.
