The type species (type conserved) of the genus Chlamydomonas is Chlamydomonas reinhardtii P.A.Dangeard.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Microglena braunii (Gorozhankin) Demchenko, Mikhailyuk & Proschold.
