Type Species
The type species (holotype) of the genus Ganonema is Ganonema farinosum (J.V.Lamouroux) K.-C.Fan & Y.-C.Wang.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Hommersandiophycus borowitzkae (Huisman) Showe M.Lin & Huisman.

Type locality: Middle Island, Barrow Island, Western Australia; (Huisman 2006: 37) Holotype: J.M. Huisman; 17 November 1996; drift; PERTH; 07141335 (Huisman 2006: 37) Notes: Originally MURU B280. Date: 17.xi. 1996 (Huisman 2002) but 17 September 1996 (Lin et al. 2014).

General Environment
This is a marine species.

Habitat
Occurs in the lower intertidal and upper subtidal; epilithic, the base generally covered by sand (Huisman 2006: 38).
