The type species (lectotype) of the genus Grateloupia is Grateloupia filicina (J.V.Lamouroux) C.Agardh.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Phyllymenia capensis (O.De Clerck) Gargiulo, M.Morabito & Manghisi.

Type locality: Kommetjie, Western Cape Province, South Africa; (De Clerck et al. 2005: 403) Holotype: O. De Clerck; 1.vi.2003; GENT; ODC 924 (De Clerck et al. 2005: 403) Notes: Isotypes in BOL and LAF.

Origin of Species Name
Adjective B (Latin), pertaining to the Cape, usually the Cape of Good Hope, South Africa.

General Environment
This is a marine species.

Habitat
According to De Clerck et al. (2005: 404), this is a common to abundant species, predominantly found in shallow mid to high intertidal pools.
