Type Species
The type species (holotype) of the genus Rhododermis is Rhododermis elegans P.Crouan & H.Crouan ex J.Agardh.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Hildenbrandia rubra (Sommerfelt) Meneghini.

Type Information
Type locality: New Castle, Co. Down [Ireland]; rocky sides and bases of maritime caves; covered at H.W. exposed to dripping freshwater. Drummond May 1840.;
