The type species (holotype) of the genus Pyramimonas is Pyramimonas tetrarhynchus Schmarda.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Pyramimonas moestrupii McFadden.

Type locality: Royal Cape Yacht Club basin, Cape Town harbour; (Sym & Pienaar 1991: 52) Holotype: figs 1, 2: August 1988; in water (salinity 35‰); (Sym & Pienaar 1991: 52) Notes: Culture numbers L2, L11 and L13 in the culture collection housed at the University of the Witwatersrand.
