Nomenclatural note
There was a seeming attempt to validate this name in E.Reuchardt (2018: 197, pl. 446: figs 1, 2) with the provision of a Latin description but the name was originally introduced as a new name for Navicula mesolepta var. stauroneiformis Grunow 1860 (priority for Pinnularia stauroneiformis W.Smith 1853) and thus was valid in the original publication. The "holotype" mentioned by Reichardt (2018: 197) as material in Krammer's collection is not the type, but is to be found amongst Grunow's materials. - (20 March 2019) - M.D. Guiry
