Abstract:
A proposal to conserve the genus name Arthrodesmus with A. octocornis as type has been rejected. Therefore, there is no genus name available for the species formerly allotted to Arthrodesmus sect. Octacanthium and Polycanthium when they are considered generically different from Xanthidium. It has been thought useful to raise one of these sections to the rank of genus under the name Octacanthium. The type species of the new genus is O. octocorne (Ralfs) Compere. New combinations are proposed for nine species hitherto classified under Xanthidium or under Arthrodesmus sect. Octacanthium and Polycanthium.
