Abstract:
This electron microscopy study analyzes the phytoplankton materials from waterbodies and watercourses of Western and Eastern Siberia, and the Far East. The variability of morphological features (valve length and width, number of striae and areolae in 10 ?m, shape of valve and its central area, striae structure) is studied in two rare species, Genkalia digituloides and G. digitulus. Data on the distribution of G. digituloides is improved: for the first time this species is recorded from the Kamchatka Peninsula (Lake Potat-Gytgyn). The analysis of published data on the morphology of the recently described species G. boreoalpina shows its similarity with G. digituloides, and justifies referring the former species to the synonymy of the latter. The results of this study and the literature data on the morphology of G. digituloides and G. digitulus make it possible to extend the diagnoses of these two species. Based on materials from waterbodies and watercourses on the Yamal and Tazovsky peninsulas, a new to species, G. losevae sp. nov., is described. The new species differs from morphologically similar G. digitulus by the absence of the central area.
