Abstract:
We study the benthic diatom flora of five ponds located in the provinces of Malaga and Granada. The majority of these ponds are permanent systems with neutral or slightly alkaline pH, with medium to high mineralization valúes and variable degrees of eutrophy. We have studied 115 taxa. The Pennate species are dominant in these communities. We have selected the following taxa for their special interest: Chaetoceros wighamii, because it is an unusual and generally misinterpreted species; Stauroneis lauenburgiana, for the presence of several morphological aberrations; and Brachysira aponina, because its distribution is not well known.
