Taxonomic status: This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Eupogodon.

Most recent taxonomic treatment adopted: Kylin, H. (1956). Die Gattungen der Rhodophyceen. pp. i-xv, 1-673, 458 figs. Lund: C.W.K. Gleerups.

Nomenclatural note
Athanasiadis (2016: 1054) credits Zanardini (1843: 52) with the introduction of this genus name. ING credits its introduction to Montagne (1857: 54) where "Dasyopsis Zanard." is listed as a genus of the "Rhodomélées" but no other information is provided. No mention of "Dasya subg. Dasyopsis C. Montagne in M. C. Durieu de Maisonneuve, Expl. Sci. Algérie, Bot. 1: 85. 1846." is made and there is no description. Zanardini (1843: 52) included two species Dasyopsis plana and Dasyopsis spinella but there is no generic description. - (25 January 2017) - M.D. Guiry
