Original publication and holotype designation: Børgesen, F. (1953). Some marine algae from Mauritius. Additions to the parts previously published. V. Kongelige Danske Videnskabernes Selskab, Biologiske Meddleleser 21(9): 62, 20 figs, 3 plates.
Taxonomic status: currently regarded as a synonym of Corallophila.
Most recent taxonomic treatment adopted: Schneider, C.W. & Wynne, M.J. (2007). A synoptic review of the classification of red algal genera a half a century after Kylin's "Die Gattungen der Rhodophyceen". Botanica Marina 50: 197-249.
Comments: Plant closely resembling Ceramium, originally separated for monopodial, endogenous branching and transverse division of apical cell. Validity of genus challenged (Hommersand 1963), but maintained by later authors on basis of above features and detail of reproductive structures. Recorded from tropical and subtropical seas.
