Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Thalassiosira hyperborea var. pelagica (A.Cleve) G.R.Hasle.

Type locality: Oresund between Sweden and Denmark; (Index Nominum Algarum) Type: L.G. Sjöstedt; 1931/1932; (Index Nominum Algarum) Notes: Neotype: IMBB 95, clone F-9 (EES),Fölisöfjäed, Gulf of Finland, 8 May 1980 (Hasle & Lange, 1989: 129).
Origin of Species Name
Adjective (Latin), inhabiting lakes (Stearn 1973).
