Type Species
The type species (holotype) of the genus Tropidoneis is Tropidoneis vitrea (W.Smith) Cleve.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Craspedostauros laevissimus (West & G.S.West) Sabbe.

Type Information
Type locality: Antarctica: McMurdo Sound (Clear lake; Green Lake; lake on west side); (West & West 1911: 281) Notes: Lectotype: BM34122 (fide Van de Vijver et al. 2012).
