Nomenclatural note
"This species, described by Ardissone (1861: 419) from Acireale (Catania, Italy), was later considered by Ardissone (1883: 114) as a synonym of C. rubrum var. tenue (= C. virgatum var. tenue). It should be noted that previously, Ardissone (1867: 77 and 1871: 48), had considered T. mediterraneum as a synonym of C. rubrum var. piliferum Ardissone, a a taxon he had described in 1867 (Ardissone, 1867: 77) and no longer mentioned after 1871 (Ardissone, 1871: 48). - (15 November 2023) - M.D. Guiry
