The type species (lectotype) of the genus Achnanthes is Achnanthes adnata Bory.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Achnanthidium caledonicum (Lange-Bertalot) Lange-Bertalot.

Type locality: U.K.: Shetland Isles (fresh water); (Index Nominum Algarum) Notes: Lectotype: BM94890, ex J.R. Carter 3665 (Jüttner et al., 2022: 149).
