The type species (holotype) of the genus Navicula is Navicula tripunctata (O.F.Müller) Bory.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Progonoia mirabilis (Leuduger-Fortmorel) H.-J.Schrader.

Adjective (Latin), to be wondered at, wonderful, marvellous, extraordinary, admirable (Smith & Lockwood 1933).
