The type species (holotype) of the genus Polysiphonia is Polysiphonia urceolata (Lightfoot ex Dillwyn) Greville.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Streblocladia muelleriana (J.Agardh) L.E.Phillips, Hommersand, N.M.Adams & W.A.Nelson.
