Type Species
The type species (holotype) of the genus Asterolampra is Asterolampra marylandica Ehrenberg.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Asteromphalus stellatus Ralfs.

Origin of Species Name
Adjective (Latin), stellate, with narrow divisions radiating from the center like the rays of a star (Stearn 1973).
