This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Ascophyllum nodosum (Linnaeus) Le Jolis.
Type locality: Habitat in Mari Atlantico [Atlantic Ocean]; (Linnaeus 1753: 1159) Notes: On-line view of an unlocalised specimen LINN 1274.58 in the Linnean Herbarium labelled "9" as in the protologue. Athanasiadis (1996: 217) indicated that no type has been designated.
Origin of Species Name
Adjective (Latin), knotted, knobbly (Stearn 1973).
